Here’s a snapshot of me toward the end of a trail race a few weeks ago:
What the picture doesn’t show is that shortly after this, I slipped and fell (for the first time on a trail race). No injuries (thank goodness!), but it reminded me why I’ve been gravitating toward trails instead of road races these days.
There’s something raw and grounding about trail running. It’s unpredictable, messy, and forces me to listen to your body—something I care deeply about.
I had signed up for the 20k distance but stopped after 10k because my body said, We’re done. In the past, I would’ve pushed through, ignoring the signs, just to hit the goal. These days, I’m not about chasing numbers or forcing myself to stick to arbitrary benchmarks. It feels so much better to focus on how I want to feel—both on the trail and in life.
And maybe you noticed the poles. Yes! The poles are so supportive for me. Just like when I overcome my hyperindependence and ask for help in my daily life. (I could make trail running metaphors for life all day, every day!)
How about you? What’s your version of "stopping at 10k" when your body (or mind!) needs a break?
Today’s Speaking Gig
Speaking of feeling good, I’m giving an in-person talk at lunchtime titled:
"Thriving Under Pressure: Managing Stressful Customer Interactions with Confidence"
I’ll be sharing strategies for handling high-stress situations with more ease, clarity, and self-assurance. It’s all about helping people feel more equipped to navigate their day-to-day challenges.
If this sounds like something your workplace or organization could benefit from, I’d be thrilled to bring it to your team! Just hit reply, and let’s chat.
What I’ve Been Reading Lately
I’ve been diving into some fascinating reads:
Scrolls of Deborah
This one is all about two women living their lives through the decades. It’s a beautifully told story of friendship, growth, and resilience. The Courage to Be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga
The Japanese Phenomenon That Shows You How to Change Your Life and Achieve Real Happiness
The subtitle on this one acts like it’s a self-help book, but it’s more of a dialogue between a philosopher and a student. I’m reading it slowly.Meditation for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman
I’ve been savoring this one chapter by chapter. It’s practical yet written with a systems perspective, and I find myself enjoying the cross-disciplinary nature.
Have you read any of these? Or do you have something similar on your shelf that you’ve been loving? Let me know.
Let’s Tackle the Holiday Season Together
Ah, the holidays—where joy and stress can collide in spectacular ways.
Overeating, overscheduling, overthinking… been there, done that many times.
If you’re finding yourself dreading certain family dynamics, struggling with boundaries, or just overwhelmed by the everythingness of it all, let’s talk.
Coaching is the perfect gift to give yourself to navigate the season with more ease and grace. Whether it’s a one-time session or ongoing support, I’m here to help.
Thanks for being here and for letting me share a little piece of my life with you. If today’s newsletter spoke to you, reply and let me know what resonated.
Wishing you a trail full of steady footing this week.
I thought I was going to love The Courage to be Disliked but I was never able to get into it. I hope you enjoy it more than I did!
