How often do you go into a meeting or some kind of 1:1 interaction with this mindset:
What do we need to fix today?
What problem are we trying to solve?
What’s the issue?
We dive right into finding the answer without questioning it.
That’s one way to do it.
Today, let’s talk about another way.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been studying the Clean Language techniques by Caitlin Walker and Marian Way.
(Marian herself coached me in a 1:1 session, which was very helpful for my summer planning.)
The question they use over and over again is:
What would you like to have happen?
For me, hearing that question radically shifts my brain.
I’ve been using it in a variety of settings with people and it can really change the tone of the interaction.
So try it out in your next meeting and tell me how it goes.
These are the types of strategies I use with my clients and their teams.
I’d love to work with your team on implementing these kinds of changes.
